Is Laser Hair Removal Right For My Skin Type?

With today's advances in aesthetic technology, the Certified Laser Technicians at Spa Greystone provide comfortable, safe and effective Laser Hair Removal sessions for all types of skin, even people with a suntan.

How Much Do Laser Hair Treatments Cost?

Costs for Laser Hair Removal vary depending on the size of the area that is being treated and the number of treatments that are required. Please see our Spa Menu for the most up-to-date Laser Hair Removal prices at our Birmingham-Hoover, Alabama laser spa for removing unwanted hair on different areas of the body, and for women and men.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The hair on your body goes through three distinct phases: active growth, transition and resting. Hairs that are in the active growth phase at the time of treatment are targeted with laser light energy that is absorbed directly into the melanin inside the hair shaft, disabling the ability of these hairs to regrow.

Hairs treated during the active growth phase will begin to shed within 7 to 10 days after each treatment session. Significantly less hair will grow back with each treatment. Most patients will notice the treatment area to be smoother over time.

What Do Treatments Feel Like?

Laser Hair Removal treatments at Spa Greystone are designed to be gentle and virtually painless for all patients. The laser handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. Patients have reported that the Cheveux laser's exclusive "Smooth Flow" mode feels a gentle heating sensation much like a hot stone massage.

Depending on the laser settings chosen by your technician for your treatment session, you may feel minor discomfort similar to a stinging or pinching sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is usually required, but some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when treating sensitive areas.

How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

Areas treated with Laser Hair Removal may require just one treatment, but may need one or two additional treatments. The number of treatments required for best long-term benefit depends on factors such as the thickness of your hair, the area treated and your hair's growth cycle.

Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time. Hairs actually go through three distinct phases: growth, transition and resting. Laser Hair Removal treatments work by disabling hairs that are principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

The actual number of treatments will depend on the genetic variants of the hair growth cycle of each individual, but on average most areas will require three to six treatments.

What Happens After My Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Immediately following your Laser Hair Removal treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment, you may experience what seems to be hair regrowth. Most of these hairs are actually being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing.

You should not wax, pull or pluck hairs in the treated area between treatments. This can cause the hair follicle to begin a regrowth phase. It is permissible to shave during this time.

Following Laser Hair Removal treatments, apply a SPF 30 sunscreen to protect the treated area from any skin discoloration.

What Are The Possible Side Effects?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. There is minimal downtime and patients should be able to return to daily activities right away.
